information technology

Realizing well in time that the Information Technology wave had become a phenomenon in itself over the past few years, the Institute established a separate Department to cater to the ever-growing demand for professionals in this challenging field.

The first batch of engineers in Information Technology graduates from the newly established Department of Information Technology this year, a class full of curiosity and thirst for knowledge, vigour and the vision to look beyond the evident. The students are well versed with the exhaustive and thoroughly chosen curriculum, guided as they are by an experienced faculty.

Going beyond the theoretical, hands-on training sessions in various fields of application of Information Technology have imparted the students considerable acumen in the vast sector.

The students perform project work and undergo industrial training as a part of their curriculum to enhance their specialization skills & give them adequate industry exposure, leading to multi-faceted development of their engineering concepts.

laboratories

Extensive practical training marks the high point of the curriculum of the Department of Information Technology, with the following facilities being provided to the students by means of a consortium of laboratories shared by related departments and courses, to ensure intensive interaction amongst students of different yet related fields.

  • Networking Lab
Practical courses on java, web technologies such as HTML, VRML etc and networking are held in this lab. A cable modem and a Gateway Router is placed inside the OF node of Asianet Satellite Communications Ltd in Technopark, Trivandrum premises as part of the wireless broad band network provided to the college with a maximum downstream bandwidth 128 kbps, which permits 24 hours access for the internet.
  • Multimedia and Graphics Lab
This lab provides practical courses in Computer Graphics, Multimedia, Data Structures, Analysis & Design of Algorithms. The students are exposed to system softwares such as Pascal, COBOL, C, C++, Visual C++, and .NET etc
  • Software Lab Both Windows98 and Linux have been installed in all the systems in this lab.
  • Computer Centre The main project presentation is done at the computer center, and necessary assistance for mini project is provided.
Each software lab consists of about 35 Pentium 4 based systems with 40GB HDD, 128MB RAM and a server workstation. The systems are connected to form a local area network and the accessories such as printers, scanner are shared among them. The students are exposed to different operating systems such as Windows 98, Windows XP, Linux, UNIX. The computing facility labs have software and utilities such as the Windows XP, Windows NT, Windows 98, Linux, Oracle 8i, AutoCAD, MS-Office, MS Visual Studio, Borland C++, Turbo C++ Assembler, CorelDraw, Dbase etc.
