He joined
the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) in 1967 and worked
in the Physical Research Laboratory of ISRO at Ahmedabad till 1970.
From February 1970 to March 2003 - occupied various positions in
the Space Physics Laboratory (SPL) of Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre
(VSSC) of ISRO at Trivandrum where he worked till his retirement
and one more year after that on contract basis.
He was the Head of the Atmosphere Technology Division (ATD), of
SPL, VSSC for more than 16 years. His main contribution was the
indigenous design and development of many powerful radar systems
for atmospheric research. Some of the major radar systems developed
and operationalized under his guidance are the VHF Backscatter radar,
VHF Meteor trails radar, two frequency HF radar and a recently commissioned
Partial Reflection radar. The high power pulsed transmitters, duplexers,
phased array antennas, coherent receivers, radar controllers and
data acquisition and processing systems required for these radars
were designed and developed at SPL, VSSC. At national level he contributed
significantly to the development and installation of the Mesosphere,
Stratosphere and Troposphere (MST) radar facility at Gadanki near
Tirupati and was the Chairman of the Test and Evaluation Committee
for this radar. He was also instrumental in the design and installation
of a coherent ionospheric radar facility for the Institute of space
research at Sao Luis in Brazil where he worked for about 3 years
during his association with ISRO.
He has published many papers in national and international journals
in addition to presenting many papers in symposia and workshops. |
